Call to Action! SB 330, Protect the Texas Electric Grid
May 10, 2023 | Austin, TX
Update: Scheduled for public hearing on May 17.
While a bill to protect our electric grid from disaster languishes in a House committee, a new report shows that our grid will be vulnerable this summer. How soon we forget the near disaster of the great Texas freeze just two years ago, when we came within a hair of the whole thing collapsing!
"Data shows, for the first time, that the peak demand for electricity this summer will exceed the amount we can generate from on-demand, dispatchable power," according to Peter Lake, chairman of the Texas Public Utility Commission. SB 330 by Senator Bob Hall of District 2 has already passed the Senate and was assigned to the House State Affairs Committee on April 27, where it sits in danger of death from neglect.
If a hearing is not called on the bill almost immediately, we will all be sweating out the summer, both literally and figuratively. Below are the names of the members of the House State Affairs Committee.
Please call and tell them you expect a hearing on a bill that should face no partisan division. Ask them to do their jobs and protect Texans.
Take Action
Contact the members of the House State Affairs Committee and urge them to support SB 330 to protect the Texas electrical grid. Update: Scheduled for public hearing on May 17.
