September 6, 2023 | Walker County, TX

The Montgomery County Republican Party County Executive Committee (CEC) delivered snacks and water bottles this morning to the Walker County Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

Walker County OEM had requested individually wrapped snacks and water bottles to provide to firefighters who have been working since Friday to contain the Game Preserve wildfire nine miles northwest of Huntsville in Walker County.

Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator Sherri Pegoda expressed appreciation to everyone who donated items to help support the firefighters.

According to Texas A&M Forest Service, the wildfire has impacted 4,428 acres and is 90 percent contained as of 5 pm today. Residents near the area who were evacuated have been allowed to return to their homes.

The wildfire is being managed by Walker County firefighters, a team of firefighters from Florida, Walker County OEM, and Texas A&M Forest Service. Pegoda expects the crew from Florida to remain at least through Sunday.

The Montgomery County Republican Party thanks all who contributed. We continue to pray for the firefighters and everyone involved in containing the blaze.
