State Party Votes to Affiliate With the Young Republicans of Texas
September 24, 2023 | Austin, Texas
The State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) voted yesterday to affiliate with the Young Republicans of Texas. The vote comes after the Young Republicans National Federation, which has become more progressive and critical of the Republican Party of Texas Platform, recently disassociated from the Republican Party of Texas (RPT).
The SREC voted 42-18 with two abstentions to make the Young Republicans of Texas an official auxiliary of the Texas GOP.
The Young Republicans of Texas was formed by former members of the Young Republicans National Federation who want to “fight for conservative policy priorities and emphasize YR growth and engagement statewide.”
“We will present a positive, conservative message in a God-honoring way,” they stated in response to the SREC vote.
The Young Republicans National Federation released a statement expressing their disappointment with the RPT’s decision and expressing their hope that the RPT would reconsider, calling the decision divisive and insinuating that it would impact the 2024 election cycle.
The statement was questioned by many on social media since the Young Republicans National Federation made the decision to disassociate from the RPT.
Attorney General Ken Paxton welcomed “the newest generation of Young Republicans” and encouraged support.
