Representative Will Metcalf sent an update on progress in the Texas Legislature and bills he has filed.
Governor’s list of emergency items
The update explains that the legislature cannot hear legislation in committees for the first 30 days of the session or on the chamber floor for the first 60 days unless the subject matter of the bill is on the Governor’s list of emergency items.
“I expect the Governor to announce the date of his State of the State address any day now, but based on his remarks at his inauguration on January 17th, we can infer a few of his priorities,” says Metcalf.
He lists school safety, reforming school curriculum, public safety and support of law enforcement, and securing the border as potential emergency items to be announced by the Governor at his State of the State address.
Bills filed by Rep. Metcalf
Metcalf highlights three bills he has filed this session:
House Bill 513 - relating to the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance or marijuana causing death or serious bodily injury; creating a criminal offense; increasing a criminal penalty.
House Bill 1436 - will redesignate County Court at Law No. 2 of Montgomery County as Probate Court No. 1 of Montgomery County.
House Bill 1422 - will make the observation of daylight saving time year-round in Texas.
